Las Banderas: London’s Spanish Brunch Club

Situated in the bustling streets of Soho, lies Las Banderas; a Spanish themed restaurant specialising in tapas.  They currently have three London restaurants, with the other two situated in Fenchurch Street and Farringdon.

I was invited by Love Pop Up’s London to review their brunch menu, so on an early Saturday afternoon, Rich and I headed to try it out!

Originally named MasQMenos (a popular restaurant chain back in Spain), the owners decided to distinguish the brand and rename it as Las Banderas. Spanish tapas isn’t something that springs to mind when my friends and I think of brunch, so it’s great to see Las Banderas offering something different and creating a new brunch experience for people to enjoy.

As aforementioned, Las Banderas offers a wide range of quality Latin food and Tapas, including platters of cold cut Iberian jamon, generous salads, and artesian breads.  This delicious food comes accompanied with Latin wines from various regions, cocktails, beers, juices, smoothies, and coffee from their special handpicked blend.

The bottomless bunch menu is short and sweet.  There isn’t a huge selection of choices, however there is enough variety for you to be able to find something you like.  For £32 per person, you receive one dish from the menu and 90 minutes of unlimited alcohol from either Cava, Sangria, or Bloody Mary. Soft drinks are also available.

Rich decided on the ‘Meat ball Brekki’ which consisted of Spanish Albondigas (meatballs in a tomato sauce), bravas potatoes, egg, and salad.  It looked amazing and I was very jealous of his dish! The meatballs were rich in flavour and cooked medium for the perfect texture.  It was a filling meal which is a huge compliment as Rich is never full!

I opted for the Jamon Spaceman Sandwich which came with Rustico Jamon Iberico, Bravas potatoes, and salad. The bravas potatoes were divine and something I definitely want to incorporate into my own cooking at home. Although the Jamon sandwich was enjoyable, I still prefer English bacon – sorry! I asked for a side of scrambled egg too, which was a nice additional touch to the brunch.

Rich had Sangria throughout his meal which he definitely enjoyed, and was apparently “just the right level of sweetness”.  I settled for orange juice which was fresh and smooth – a great start to the morning.

I would definitely recommend Las Banderas for those seeking a more alternative brunch, or those who are lovers of Spanish cuisine.  The restaurant boasts beautiful interiors and pride themselves on the quality of their food.

The meals look amazing. I’m trying though to know if those tiny squared sized (maybe diced) fried or baked pastry (for not knowing what to call them– sorry) is the same thing we call chin chin in Nigeria.

You do have a beautiful blog.
