I have ALWAYS wanted to do an Escape Room, so I was absolutely thrilled to receive an invitation to one of London’s best escape games at clueQuest, situated 10 mins walk from Kings Cross Station. I want to take this opportunity to say a huge thank you to Julia from clueQuest who provided my friends and me with tickets to try it out!
About clueQuest
clueQuest is a family run business that started in June 2013. It was created by four brothers with a love for immersive experiences. The brothers designed everything themselves – from the games, to the characters within them, to the props, and even the logo itself. Over 150,000 customers have experienced their missions to date.
There are three missions to choose from (PLAN52, Operation BlackSheep, and Revenge of the Sheep) that all revolve around the same characters. Being the easiest, PLAN52 is ideal for beginners, in contrast to Revenge of the Sheep which is the most difficult; recommended for experienced players only.
So what is the story of these missions?
Mr Q, ‘the yellow mouse’, is the fictional leader and main character of the spy-themed real life escape game. He is also the image of the overall brand. Professor BlackSheep is the fictional villain of the game and the antagonist of Mr Q. The games are open to all ages, making it an accessible experience to both the young and the young at heart!
Teams of 3-5 players have 60 minutes to escape the room using teamwork, communication and logic to gather clues and solve the puzzles.
We chose Operation BlackSheep, currently ranked number 1 on trip advisor, and it definitely deserves its place at the top! Obviously, I can’t give much away, but what I can say, is that there are so many twists and turns, hidden rooms, and heart racing moments that had us on an emotional journey for the full 60 minutes.
TOP TIP: Check EVERYTHING in the rooms. We were running around trying to solve trickier clues for about 20 minutes when all along, the key we were looking for to open one of the padlocks, was inside an object in the middle of the floor – I still have no idea how none of us spotted it! So make sure to scan the room first –leave no object unturned!
The links between the different clues and rooms are fantastic. There are puzzles you solve in the first round, that are needed again in the final rounds, so it is important you don’t throw anything away.
Additionally, some of the objects become clues later on, so don’t dismiss them if they aren’t needed immediately. There was one hilarious moment where we threw something away and ended up running around desperately trying to piece it all together in the final stages.
The story is gripping throughout. Each room is a different phase of the mission, and you are fully immersed in the story.
Fortunately, we managed to escape with 5 mins 30 secs on the clock! It was a true team effort and I would thoroughly recommend this particular escape game to everyone – both beginners and experienced. It is ranked 3/5 for difficulty and has a 14% escape rate.
After the mission, we were all given a fridge magnet that had our team photo inside, a pen, and a chance to sign the winners book!
Thank you again to clueQuest for providing us with tickets. We all had a fantastic time, made better by the fact we escaped! I’m looking forward to trying out a few more.
